In a typical household, over half of the fuel bills are spent on heating and hot water. The average household in 2020 generated 2690kg of carbon dioxide from their heating system. Electric heating is generally considered to be 100% efficient at the point of use. If you pay for 2kW of electricity, you will benefit from 2kW of heat. Gas systems are not 100% efficient, as some heat is lost through the pipes and the flue.
Gas heating systems can be quite noisy due to water rushing through the pipes, whereas electric systems do not emit noise. Lot20 regulations stipulate that all space heaters that consume energy with a nominal heat output of at least 250w must comply with a minimum efficiency value to lessen environmental impact.
